Liz is captivated by the energy that transforms into a new form and inspired by the focused dedication needed to refine that shape into the most optimal proportions. She then adds color and line to the surface of an object in a playful reinterpretation of the original concept. Through this process of creation, refinement, and evaluation, she infuses a cup, bowl, or sculpture with a vibrancy that can disrupt conventional patterns of living in a positive way. In 2005, Kasten established her studio in Oakland, California, where she transitioned from functional ceramics to sculptural pieces. She became an Artist in Residence at Red Dirt Studio, refining her unique blend of sculpture and vessel work. In 2012, she acquired a shoe repair shop to serve as her studio and gallery, Artbar, attracting visitors and collectors. Kasten later moved to the St. Croix River Valley in Minnesota, where she hosts the St. Croix Valley Pottery Tour. Lisa Orr is a ceramic artist with an MFA from The New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. She has received prestigious fellowships and teaches ceramics in Austin, Texas. Orr's pottery is designed for everyday use, featuring fluid and asymmetrical forms with vibrant colors and intricate decorations inspired by nature.
